More Than Just a Gambling Good Time

Primarily about Thoroughbred race horses, the Kentucky Derby is an annual event held in Louisville, Kentucky.  Most people consider this to be the most prestigious race in the world of horse racing.  It has become tradition for the ladies to wear elaborate hats to the Kentucky Derby.

These hats are often unique to say the least.

There is an "infield" section of the race that is considered to be for socializing and partying. Most of these "infield" general addmission tickets won't even have a view of the race!

The grand stands are often filled with the rich & the famous also known as Millionaire's Row.

The Floppy Hat is among the most common derby hat as it is fitting for the first Saturday in May which is the usual date for the race.

I'm curious if you have to pay for an extra ticket if your pompous hat is extra large! Some of these hats are down right wacky!

Flower, Feathers, tule & much more can be found embelishing girls' hats at the Kentucky Derby.

It is obvious that comfort is not a priority when it comes to Derby day.

Many bets are placed at horse races. Without gambling involved I am not sure how popular the sport would be.

Earthy Girls Wearing Hats - Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! Not sure if this day is to celebrate the age of the third rock or just to promote keeping it green and free from pollution. Since there is much debate on how many years our planet has been in existance, we'll lean toward a slightly less controversial pollution free trend. So without further ado I present "Earthy Girls Wearing Hats!"

The criteria here for earthy girls is pretty broad. It could be chicks that are wearing hats made from natural materials such as hemp...

...could be the greener type echo-friendly, don't use hairspray type

We'll even go as far as to include the shabby chic look with deep earth tones for a fashion sense.

Oh and lets not forget the hippie culture...or hippie has beens.

Even these natural type girls can find a hat that fits their style. Sometimes simple is sexy.

Bohemian gals always know how to get their hat on

So this Boho lady just couldn't stand wearing pants with the hat but she has the free spirit of the earth giving her the o.k. to do as she pleases!

Lots of the earthy females love accenting their style with a knit cap. These are also pretty good for keeping warm and hiding a ton of hair or other controband inside of.

Oh and here is the very popular floppy hat. This trend has come full circle and now even top celebrities can be found sporting this wide brim sun shade

A Hat Fit for a Queen - Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth

Girls Wearing Hats would like to say "Happy Birthday" to Queen Elizabeth II. She was born April 21st 1926 which would make her 34 years old today, or wait I guess she is 84 :) but 34 in heart! This woman has been caught wearing some of the finest hats that we've seen. And since we are all about Girls Wearing Hats then we'll take a look at what this royal figure has flaunted over the years.

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary is the queen regnant over 16 sovereign states which are known as Commonwealth realms.

She began her reign on February 6th 1952

It is fantastic to see all the colorful and unique hats that the queen has worn over the years.

Queen Elizabeth is always color coordinated and you will usually find a nice pendant on her left shoulder.

Queen Elizabeth is not one for personal interviews and she rarely shares her feelings

 

The solid colors that she wears tell us that she takes great pride in her position.

She is a very private woman. Forbes has estimated her net worth over $450 million dollars

Her hats are both functional and fashionable often protecting her from the sun and adorned with flowers

During the 1970's it seemed like the queen's hats were much smaller

Britain's queen has been a long standing woman of many wonders. Her Majesty inspires fashion and brings a bold touch of leadership to women around the world.
