Victorian Era Girls Wearing Hats Three-Stories Tall

As I've posted before, hats have been around for a very long time. I hope you enjoy these Victorian/Edwardian era photos of Girls Wearing Hats.
Around 1880 women's hats began to get taller and taller. Sometimes called "Three Story" hats they were often adorned with various flowers & bows.

Also common during this era were different types of bonnets. Stuffing and layering was used to increase the size and stature of these huge hats.

"Flowerpot Hats" & "Touring Hats" were the most popular hats in the late 19th century.

Creeping into the Edwardian era of fashion the hats got even bigger.
Here are some crazy huge feathers just blossoming out of this ladies cranium looks like a native american head-dress. I wonder if this style will ever be popular again?

I do love the "Floppy Hat" though as it makes an early appearance around the turn of the century.

If you have any great photos of your grandmother or great grandmother wearing hats of their day please feel free to submit them via email and we'll get them posted in our next vintage & antique blog entry.

There have been some signs of bringing back these older styles but mainly as costumes or just ideas that never make it off the fashion runway.

This was from a Victorian theme Christmas party, I'm guessing that they were trying to be silly but who knows.
